Song for our final music video

Hey guys, so I've finally decided who to work with for my final music video and the song we're going to do, me and Connor have both decided to do Undercover Martyn by Two Door Cinema Club.
I think due to the upbeat rhythm of the song, it allows us to have fun and experiment with different things, I feel that as its got a fast pace, we will have to use a lot of fast cuts and quick transitions. We aim to make the video using vibrant colour and a lot of lighting to give a happy feel. We do face a few challenges as we will be filming in winter, so we may have to add the vibrant colours in the pro-production stages. Here is the song we're making the video to....

Project on the side

Hey guys, so over the weekend I was asked to do a little bit of photography for a family wedding, it was a handfasting ceremony so had autumn tones. I know its got nothing to do with music videos, but wanted to share with you the skills I've built up over a matter of time, as I've learned about good lighting techniques and the positioning  of the camera, I also found finding the correct setting on the camera hard to do in order to achieve the best possible photo, hope you like them...

Photoshop

Hey guys, we were given the task to take a range of 'band/artist' photo's and have a go at editing them, here's what we did...

This picture was an accident. We was half way through photo-shopping the brick background out, so thought I'd share this with you, as I thought it looked cool, I liked the lining around Connors head and the random brick work.
This picture is supposed to give off the expression of ' the we are a lot of fun' band, we photo-shopped Connor in, It was difficult to get to the lighting correct in order to make it look like one big image rather than Connor standing out.
I think this is my favourite because of how silly is it! This is the 'icon/object' and yes, he is the sun from teletubbies! We found this easier lighting wise as we found the correct shade of yellow in order to fit in with the sun.
This is the 'I'll smash your house in' one. Similarly, the use of matching colours helped us blend in the image of Connor.

My article review

Hey guys so thought I'd do a review on this recent article about music video's and whether people create controversial music videos as a publicity stunt. Basically the article suggests that a song doesn't have to be particularly good but if the music video is 'wtf viral news story' then its more likely to be a hit. The article talks about Rihanna's video to 'bitch better have my money' and how the explicit content and racial politics are just the kind of thing pop stars do at a certain point in their careers, suggesting that they eventually lose publicity and need something to get them recognised. To an extent I do agree, for example, the song itself barely has any lyrics, its very repetitive, if I heard it on the radio, I'd switch it off. However, people 'YouTube' the song to watch the video as it has developed controversy and people want to see what the 'fuss' is about. The video itself has made the song well known, not the quality of the song. The article also states that 'when a musician starts to use the phrase 'mini-movie' to describe a video, its time to quit', I don't agree with this statement, I think a music video tells the story and gives you something to visualise when listening to a song, if its like a 'mini-movie' then personally I think its a hit, I'd rather watch a music video with some meaning and a storyline than half-naked people rolling around a bed. I do however think controversy plays a big part in music videos, I think it is a easy way of gaining masses of publicity, good or bad its irrelevant, people are still watching the video which means the artist is winning. On the other side, I feel that videos that are deemed controversial I wouldn't have had a second thought about, I feel people have become more sensitive towards the content of music videos and take it too seriously, after all its just a story.

Our theory

In today's lesson we were given the task to make our own media theory. Our theory is about the influence of violent content on young people and the extreme's individuals go in order to imitate behaviour they have seen. I think this links to music video's as it show's that artists have a lot of power of how people behave, if violence is shown in music video's then violence can potentially be imitated.
